Summer Event 2014 Discussion Thread

DeletedUser5514

Hi, i dont care about who is right or wrong. I care about facts.

If you had read what i wrote, you wouldnt say that events such as this one, do "not make diamond players get further ahead", because my main point as been about Shrines and the huge advantage they give to diamond buyers (again, read back to understand what i just wrote)... such a building cannot be acquired any other way but, in my oppinion and in most people oppinion, its the one building that gives the best reward possible. Details about this building can be discussed in another thread though.

Minks 100% right. I play on 8 worlds at the moment and only spend diamonds on one of these, the other 7 never have had a diamond spent on them once. But if you compare my EN1 and EN2 worlds you would be guessing as to which is the diamond one.
The summer event has been a great help to non diamond players who (myself included) have gained diamond buildings which they otherwise would never have got. It does not make diamond players get further ahead as most awards they could have bought anyway and if they bought a few more tickets they have the same advantage over non diamond players in the summer event as they do in the game.

Generally the summer event has been great. I remember getting 4 renovation kits in one world from 8 spins but then not getting a premium cultural building with 18 spins in another even some other prizes all gone. I have one world where I got no premium prizes at all and seemed to always win things I already had coins, goods or decorations (and of course I have a great collection of "faces" now!). Playing across 8 worlds I can see that some players would think its a horrid unfair event if they have been unlucky while others are thinking its great and overall I think it was one of the best events.

Very good event Inno, I even liked the 24hr delay quests to slow the racers down - more of these please which keep the event live for more players for longer.

But you cant "just as well say it contributes to reducing the gap"

Yes, rogeriods dear, I can - I've said it a couple of times now. Your theoretical endlessly-spending diamond player is a rarity, and if s/he didn't spend those diamonds on the event s/he would spend them on some other in-game content, so the event makes no difference to how far ahead of the rest of us s/he is. Most diamond players do have limits to how much they're willing to fling away on gambling - otherwise I'd have an oasis, wouldn't I, and not this load of silly avatars and useless crud gathering dust in my inventory. Meanwhile, non-diamond-spending players who win premium stuff during these events are not a rarity at all, and they get stuff they wouldn't have otherwise. Including oases

My username is "rogeriods" not "dear"... that said, if you feel good to say wrong things:

- "Yes, dear, I can - I've said it a couple of times now."; and
- "just as well say it contributes to reducing the gap"

than be my guest. I wont discuss rarity since i just want to discuss facts. And the facts, ive written them on other posts. You can, of course, ignore the facts, but that doesnt contribute for the discussion in a positive manner.

Rogeroids Dear, your starting to come over a little bitter now but I found the wheel full of Useless items.
Did not buy any diamonds at all.
None of the prizes stood out for me and its all sat in my inventory except for Two Shrines. Only once during all those days did I see Shrines on the wheel.
In reality, I personally think rogeroids is right to a degree.
Diamond players do have an advantage and when they spend money on these events that advantage can increase to a degree but remember that CITY SPACE causes limitations which cannot be escaped. If a diamond player end up with 40 or 50 shrines, that same player has to make sacrifices of something else. Every upside has a downside here.
Another type of player who has an advantage is a well organised, dedicated and intelligent player like me. Add in some diamonds to the mix and there is no catching this player. :) Happy Days :)p

gate2 Dear (I do hope you do not mind me calling you Dear)
Rogeriods Dear has one good point concerning Shines, but considering how many times they came up I am guessing many Diamond players never saw one. but the single FP a shine gives when it motivated is dwarfed by the ability to us diamonds to buy BP's and FP's and thus max out all the FP giving GB's. I am sure if we search we can find big diamond users, just check the top of the medal list and yes they have a few shines but if the summer event had not been on, the 1000 of players that are not diamond uses and did win a shine would not have got one.

I also forgot to mention how bitter I was because on one world I won nothing of any real use and thus this event was a complete failure, but on the other side, on the other 7 worlds I was generally quite happy with what came in. Pretty much how the game went with some players winning lots, a lot winning a bit and some winning little - a bit like life !!

DeletedUser914

I don''t see what changed: it always was the case that when you bought most premium items it got easy to get to top, Now it seems that you need to spend your diamonds on shrines: if the amount of players who spend alot in this game stay the same, what's the difference?

DeletedUser97048

In my view, this game emulates the real world out there. The rich gets richer as money makes even more money. The gap between the rich and poor gets increasingly wider. This is also a fact in this game. Rather than bemoan diamond players and how this game makes them progress faster than the non-diamond players, I prefer to draw lessons from the various aspects of this game; and hopefully they'll prove beneficial in real life which is what matters most. At the end of the day, everything here is virtual.

DeletedUser5180

Oh Dear, you mean it's not real !!

IT IS REAL........i just came out of The Habitat, walked down the Boulevard past the Town Hall and Hagia Sophia and went into my Loft House. I can see Cape Canavral out of my upstairs bedroom window.

how can that be virtual.?

You can call me dear anytime LOL
I played the event on my other worlds to win the diamond prize which was 250 plus any enhancement so ALL players had the chance to win MANY diamonds using all the worlds pooled together. Not many players will have done so.
Medals....Rogeroids is third in the medals table but doesn't fight much. 19,000 fights compared to my 35,000 So how does he do that?
I'm not saying he uses diamonds though on special events. Just not sure how else it can be done without diamonds so asking the question.

DeletedUser5514

Anyone who checks my city in Dinegu will notice im not a diamond buyer / user... i do use diamonds won in all 9 worlds to buy city expansions on Dinegu and eventually one or two odd premium cultural buildings wich i no longer have. Stopped battling that much for a while but it seems medals flow into my city quite nicely :)

Must say, this is the biggest giveaway of stuff I remember in FOE. Buildings that were genuinely rare you now get in bundles. I now have three wishing wells, four shrines, two tiger's dens and so on. Could've had rogue hideout, but I have one already. In previous comps, just one of those would have been the most I could hope for.

General
Hehehe - that wheel was as much of a 'no-brainer' as this one I happened upon:

Who wouldn't go for that.png

I only managed to grab one of the then 3 remaining prizes before the rest were taken by other members of my neighbourhood (image was from just as the wheel stopped spinning, before my prize was awarded).

I wish I had kept a full count of what I won off the wheel, but the prizes include:
2 Witch Doctors
2 Tigers Dens
2 Oases
5 (yes 5!) Car Factories
3 Public Pools and
1 Music Festival

My citizens being already being ecstatically happy, the Public Pools and Music Festival are likely to remain in my Inventory unless I need to build one or other for a quest, but the Oases and other new Summer Event buildings will be in my city as soon as I can squeeze them in - indeed I have one Oasis in already :)

DeletedUser15432

Well, I only keep track of premium buildings and decorations in my multi world tracker but I have had over 40 premium prizes in this event as follows: -

Victory tower 2
log cabin - 4
travelling circus 1
sundial 1
deli shop 2
straw hut 2
beach bar 3
sand castle 1
shrine of knowledge 1
rogues hideouts 3
well of welcome 2
equestrian statue 1
carillion 2
urban residence 2
wheelwright 1
decorated boab tree 7
palm tree 2
oasis 1
tigers den 1
wishing well 2

This brings my grand total of active premium items to 267 with the most being 40 in a single city

Highlight of the event for me was being able to add 4 Wishing Wells and gain an elusive reno kit. You would not believe how hard it has been for me to get one of those :)

DeletedUser101925

The last 24hours of the event were a bit of a disappointment (in terms of the wheels i've seen, i did 8 refreshes) but overall it's been a very successful event. I've gotten 3 SoK's, 3 victory towers, an oasis, a tigers den, a rogue hideout, a king and some military buildings wich made winning the neighbors cup alot easier. Also some other things like straw huts and cultural stuffs (though most of em wont be used). Ofcourse I have nothing to complain about but meh.. a man always wants more, y'know ^^.

So yeah.. thanks Inno for this great event. It's been very rewarding :).

Edit: I forgot, I also got 1 renovation kit from this event.

Well, I also got a renovation kit which was useful s it enabled me to upgrade a Bronze Age Snow Globe to Industrial age, instead of 48 coins every 15 minutes it is now 300 coins, a quantum increase
