Ar now I get it!

The perceived fairness of a trade is directly proportional to the era at which a player is at, thus a newbie offering or asking for Early Middle Ages goods and Bronze age goods is fine. But an advanced player offering bronze age goods for whizz-bang space age technology goods is perceived as not quite right, by some.

Oh boy! This is one learning curve!
Sort of. It's not the age you're in, it's the age of the goods you're asking for. It would take years to reach Space Age's so it'd be unreasonable to expect anyone to give away goods more then a age up/down from that unless they really don't care about those goods.

That's why it's considered fair to offer 2:1 up/down by a single age, not crossing two or more ages. Because that would take additional time to reach that amount of progress
