Dear Community,
As some of you may have heard, a few days ago Adobe announced they will stop supporting their Flash technology by the end of 2020. The browser version of Forge of Empires is built on the Flash platform, and requires Flash to work. Unsurprisingly, we have seen questions about the future of the game popping up in multiple places related specifically to our utilisation of Flash. We would like to take this opportunity to briefly address them.
First and foremost: please don’t worry. We’re already on the case!
Flash has turned the Internet into a better, more pleasant, more colourful and interactive place. However, over time it has become more and more apparent that it is not a technology in line with future standards and expectations for web based applications. Therefore, work on moving our game away from Flash commenced quite some time ago and is now well underway.
We want Forge of Empires to grow and be playable for many years to come. With this in mind, we plan on releasing an HTML5 based version of Forge of Empires, currently billed for release in the first half of 2018 – long before Flash reaches End of Life. HTML5, while very different from Flash, will allow us to remove the Flash dependency. This will be a background change and it shouldn't result in any required adjustments on your end. The game will still look the same, will run in browser and under the same URL.
In the meantime – please relax and keep forging! Forge of Empires is not going anywhere .
Yours,
The Forge of Empire Team
P.S. Here is a link to the original discussion page which prompted the statement, just in case anyone has any questions
