Message Scroll

When you aid, a message scroll appears which moves up screen and disappears. If a person is auto aiding then they are not interested in what has been aided. If a person has entered the city to manually aid then they know what they have aided. Does the "Message Scroll" therefore serve another purpose? I ask because otherwise all it does is cause an amount of lag when you are trying to get through aiding everyone. Can it be removed?
