Message Centre Quick Start Guide for Guilds
-------------------------------------------------
I'm going to go out there and say that I like the new message centre. Wooh the devs must be falling off their chairs, someone complimented a new feature .
Players will work it all out soon enough but there's currently quite some confusion about how it all works. Let's break that down:
Channels
Guild Channels
Leaders
Migrating Social Channels
At the time of writing, a missing feature in the Message Centre is the ability to change social messages into guild messages. This is a bit of a nuisance because all of the standard guild channels are intialised as social channels - so if you want to take advantage of the new features then you'll have to migrate the channels across manually (or wait in hope of this feature being added). The migration is fairly quick and easy so I'd suggest taking the plunge and just getting it done now. Here's how we did it:

I'm going to go out there and say that I like the new message centre. Wooh the devs must be falling off their chairs, someone complimented a new feature .
Players will work it all out soon enough but there's currently quite some confusion about how it all works. Let's break that down:
Channels
Guild Channels
- Click the GUILD tab on the left side of the Message Centre to see the guild channels.
- ALL members can create guild channels. Only Leaders should though in most circumstances.
- Only Leaders can manage guild channels
- ALL members are automatically in EVERY group channel and cannot leave
- ALL members can hide guild channels that don't interest them. You can unhide them later if you want to rejoin the conversation.
- In the old system, leader had to manually add new members to every guild channel - now they are in them all automatically. Having to add members manually to 10+ channels under the old system was really tedious so I really appreciate this feature!
- In the old system, members who decided to rejoin a channel had to petition the leader to be re-added - now they just unhide the channel.
- Be careful not to post a private message as a guild channel - this would broadcast to the entire guild..
- Click the SOCIAL tab on the left side of the Message Centre to see the social channels
- Social channels are kinda what we had before in the old message system. All message channels from the old system will appear in the Social tab.
- You won't need to update group channels for alliances and council etc as these will remain setup with previous members and permissions.
- All users will continue to create social channels for private messages and group messages with restricted users.
Leaders
- Can create guild channels
- Can rename guild channels through the Adjust Group screen (which is poorly named based on the legacy system, because it confuses leaders into thinking they can adjust membership - you cannot).
- Can flag guild channels as important. This allows them to be shown when the "Important" filter is clicked.
- Can lock replies so that no one can comment in a guild channel. You can also unlock replies, which means that leaders could have an announcement channel which they locked after posting important messages to prevent chit chat.
- Can delete a channel
- CANNOT add or remove members - all guild members are automatically in every guild channel and cannot leave
- Can create guild channels. Probably don't though.
- Can hide and unhide guild channels. Hidden channels are only visible when the Hidden filter is clicked.
- Can flag channels as favourite. The default view with no filters turned on shows all Favourite and Non-Favourite channels. Clicking the Favourite filter causes only your favourite channels to be shown.
- NOTE: Be aware that if you turn on a filter then it remains on even when you close and reopen the message centre, or move between guild and social tabs - so if you can only see a few channels you probably left a filter on by mistake, and need to turn it off to see all the channels in a tab. This confused some people, so it's useful for leaders to realise what is going on when someone says they can't see half the channels..
- Create the following guild channels. You have to post text to create a channel so I've suggested something to write..
- Announcements (flag as important). Don't hide this channel. This is where we tell you to do more GE
- Battleground (flag as important). Don't hide this channel. All members are expected to coordinate and contribute to battlegrounds.
- Trade. Don't hide this channel. Help your guildies out with trades if you can.
- Mud. Don't hide this channel. Everyone is expected to congratulate guildies of new GBs by donating at least 1fp
- 1.9. Don't hide this channel. 1.9 is the most effective way to level your GBs (don't argue) and a source of BPs for starting players. Please help level GBs fast!
- Swap 200. Post your own GB in this thread. Hide this swap thread if you don't wish to participate.
- Swap 100. Post your own GB in this thread. Hide this swap thread if you don't wish to participate.
- Swap 10. Post your own GB in this thread. Hide this swap thread if you don't wish to participate.
- etc
- Deprecate the old guild threads in the Social tab
- Write something to the effect DO NOT USE THIS CHANNEL. This channel has been replaced by a new guild channel. You may leave this channel if you don't want the chat history
- Pay the swap amount for every GB in a swap thread (this goes hand in hand with you posting your own GB in the new guild swap threads. You don't have to do this, it just makes it easier to have the current GB posted in all the new threads).
