Is there other use of goods?

Hi all

I must ask a little silly question. Is there some other use of goods instead of trade?

if you look at the research tree, when you mouse over the lightbulb symbol for research you haven't completed yet, you'll see that you have to "pay" in goods (in addition to coins and/or supplies) to unlock some areas - that's the main reason we need goods and therefore trade them.

you can also use goods to negotiate the continental provinces instead of fighting to conquer them.
