just about to go into the iron age and upgrade the military.

should i replace the spearfighter hut with the soldier barracks or have both?

Welcome to the forums, big bear.

It's up to you, but I personally would hang onto my spears and skip the soldiers. Not every advance is really what you'd call progress, if you know what I mean.

i've just scouted the northern terrortory badakus, all their armies are archers etc, thought soldiers would be better in this group than spears.....i'll have to study the fighting guide better :O)

You will find that your spearmen are quite capable of their job, especially when they get a bit of help from slingers later on! :D

Not sure which guide you're using, but here (click) is a very good one :D Pay special attention to the colour-coding, explained at the bottom of the chart.
