Now on my 10th settlement... ugh, this is getting painful.

Still, Yggy is worth the torture of re-running the Viks to the point of insanity... especially with that insane buff to 30%atk!O.O

Japan is really just a different kind of hassle, but one that at least has much better balancing of the kobin coins/copper production vs. goods cost.
Oh, and racing to unlock that lovely Merchant fellow to help bypass unlocks to get Armour + Instruments too!

Viks I find is just a pure test of endurance vs. losing all sanity. (fortunately for me, I never had any of the latter anyways!)

Japan is more of an actual puzzle due to the odd building sizes vs. higher costs of expansions, which makes it a lot more fun to play with.
