That's the only place I have a fireplace :D

Some houses are built so they can have a fireplace in the wall between two or more rooms, so they can heat multiple rooms. Heating just one room with it (where I spend the least amount of time :D) would not be worth it for me.

I could open mine up so it was in the kitchen too, but would mean knocking a bit of wall down which is a lot of effort

Okay, kitchen + living room is the same space here. But bathroom, study/bedroom are at totally separate places, there's no way I could get the heat over to those (unless using pipes and water, like now, but then gas is cheaper, so no point).
