In the continent questlines there are specific tasks that have specific troop rewards. You get 2 or 3 unattached troops for each. Some of the abortable quests (mostly from Grivus) also give unattached troops
Yes, but those abortable quests only ever give you units of your own age, never above.

I was fairly certain in TE I got FE troops from Grivus quests...

Thanks guys, though I'm still unsure just what to do to get such troops. But then, that is part of the fun.

Yes, Summer Event starts in one week.

Getting more than one age above your own as a fighter is not easy, since military techs are usually deep within an ages tech tree and you have to research a lot of things you'd need for more than one age to get to them. Farmers, on the other hand, have what they need usually on the first thing they research, so they can stay in an age easily.

On my main world, I combine fighting, trading and farming. So far - to HMA - with fair success. However, as soon as the Summer Event is over, I will be increasing the GBs from 3 to 6 and I suspect the shortage of space is going to force me to specialise more.

Oddly, the other worlds seem to be almost deciding for themselves which way they are going! On beta, I will just mess about, though, as I created a town there for test and information purposes so I'll be messing about and occasionally (almost) wiping the town and re-building.

It may actually be worth it to go the farmer route for one entire age, because once you achieve 3 ages ahead in the quests, you can go back to fighting, it would be simple to maintain 3 ages ahead when you only need to advance it one at a time, in step with your current age.

After reading back through this and wondering how, when I moved to IndA, I was getting pasted by PME troops, this thread has proved it's worth. I used to hold back on scouting to save for events but the reward of advanced troops has got me salivating. p.s. cooler now in England. Cor what a scorcher!

The individual who's using those advanced units against you is either really brave, or has a load of diamonds ready to save them should they somehow die. It's a risky thing sending in units you can't produce.

7 rogues and 1 PME champion. My defending units went for the rogues first. As you would.
Yeah, there's a suggested change on this. Whatever else work might be done on the fight algorythms, this is an obvious flaw that needs correcting.

If or when I have an endless stream of rogues, at least I will know how to use them!

DeletedUser110195

I would not ever go for the rogues first, if I saw that army on defense, that guy would be getting plundered solely for his abject stupidity.

That was his attacking army. My defensive army of 8 long range(AI controlled)troops went for his rogues. So after the first turn, I was against 8 PME champions. I carried on watching the battle to see if I could pull it back...
