Oldschool FPS? Those are definitely Counter Strike 1.6, Call of Duty 2, Return to castle Wolfenstein and similar
Take some ten years earlier, and... PROFIT :D
Errr, Doom? :D
Why not Doom? :D Main problem with Doom for me is respawn, forcing me to speedrun - not my style of game. Heretic doesn't have respawn, Quake also, so I run em on highest difficulty. Everything else - on hard but not nightmare (UV, whatever is the difficulty with no respawn).

Doom was still not the first first person shooter, but it definitely was the base for many many more later games.

I recall there was a FPS before Wolfenstein 3D, several years before Doom, that managed to look like correct polyfilled three-dimensional picture, and Wolf predates Doom by 3 or 4 years. So... Doom was at least second. :)

Yep, there was that, but I didn't know how to spell that. :D Doom was a bigger hit, though, and its source code has been made freely available for everyone to fool around with, so it's definitely a big one. There was also Descent, where you piloted a drone.

VR versions of these would look totally awesome today! :D

This is a looking-forward-to-hearing-from-Amy post. I got hopes for those drinks!
