The Rival - Oct 2024

I am stuck on the Rival's Quest 26, which is "recruit 5 units from the previous age". How is that actually done? Does a regular building/event building/Special Building produce them? Or is there simply no alternative other than storing buildings to make space in our city to erect a military building from the previous age and then wait 17 hours for it to be built, and then wait for it to make all the individual units? That seems like a *very* long-winded way to achieve the quest, and would actually take longer than the Rival Quest is up for. So how are other players solving this?

There are only 2 ways to do this, in a reasonably short time frame.

1) have an Alcatraz and place a military building from the build menu for the age directly previous to your current, and then collect Alcatraz. You don't have to wait for barracks to build, Alcatraz makes troops from any barracks in your town regardless of being built or connected to 2-lane roads, it ignores all that.

2) The other way is look in your inventory for any previously stored event buildings that also make troops that you may have left in the previous age. Long ago, I left some Knights pavilions in my previous age and I could build them from storage, finish special production on them, self-aid them, and collect until I get 5 (knights pavilion only makes 2 at a time.)

Or as you say, you're kind of screwed if you have to do it the long way, build previous barracks, you'll need 2 if you want to train 5 units without using diamonds to open the 5th slot, and wait anywhere from 10-15 hours for the barracks to build, then wait another 4 hours after the barracks build to make the troops. Or of course you can throw diamonds at all those waiting times to rush it. You can bet that diamond option was the point of this quest.

There are downgrade kits coming soon to revert a building to a previous age or reverts them to bronze age, I don't know, I don't have any yet and I haven't seen them in the game. Edit: Also I found the downgrade kits, one-age-down and revert-to-bronze-age are indeed in the Silver and Gold passes for this event, behind a nice pay wall. If you weren't foresighted enough to save a building in a previous age in your inventory somewhere, that's what you would need to send one of the many event buildings that make troops back to a previous age so that it works for the quest.

if you are going down the route of building a previous age barracks & waiting on it to build then its worth buying the construction boost in the tavern which will reduce the build time by 25, 50 or 75%

Preparation beforehand, basically. Looking at some guides on Youtube with the list of the Rival Quests from Beta and making preparations accordingly (such as Ubernerd14).

That was a really good idea joesoap - I'm kicking myself for not seeing it in time! But I'll remember your advice in future! Thanks

That and I would build 5 buildings if you're going into that effort anyway

That way you put one unit in each building and it's done within 4 hrs once they're built

While you're at it, if you don't have a Goods building, put one down now

It can be even just the Bronze Age goods building. Just one goods building so you can do a 4-hr production on the last Rival quest

I have Units and Special Units in inventory showing they would produce SAT units. I aged-up to SASH today and, alas, those unit packs aged-up too. A few hours delay until Alcatraz paid out.

Was it "any' Goods building? I was not sure and not trusting the Quest information, so I removed a couple items in my City so I could place a Goods building of my Age. Especially after hearing a few other people saying they were not getting credit (whether that was an Inno bug, or a player bug, no idea), but i was not taking the chance of building an older Age Good, just in case.

I did a 4-hour production in a goods building in my space colony and that worked for the quest. I wasn't sure it would, but I had a backup plan to make HMA ropes (3x2) or Colonial paper (2x3) as those are the 2 smallest goods buildings.

@Paladiac the Pure The quest just says in a goods building.

It's been so long since I used any actual barracks I actually forgot you can only train 1 slot at a time. <eyeroll> Definitely need to use an event building to make troops, thank god I saved a couple of my older event buildings.

It just said "goods". It did not specify any era. I just used a bronze buillding. 30 mins build time and a kit and you are done.

I had Donkey enclosures which I leveled up to the age before me and will leave them there. I also had a tower of some sort that I was able to do the same.

If you have a Alcatraz you can do these quests by removing any current-age military building and placing a previous-age military building immediately before collecting from the Traz - Alcatraz doesn't require the barracks to be complete or even to be connected in order to determine what kind of troops it will generate.
