The Problem of Mars Ore

I have been playing FoE for some time now and believed my progress in all areas to be up to date. But having now reached Space Age Mars, I suddenly discover that for an unexplained reason, I cannot mine mars ore and cannot progress. Surely this is a major weakness in the game and risks players dropping out. I believe (it is no where clearly explained, that I am behind in the acquisition of territory on the map and am hoping the block will soon disappear, but how am
I to know? How long will this obstacle to progress remain? Can anyone explain what I am missing here? The problem is a tedious one and needs sorting out. Thank you for your help.

It's your own fault that you've been neglecting progress on the map. You're not supposed to rush research and fall behind on the map.
And yes, it's clearly an intended "blocker", and it's not the only one in the game. For instance with the new Space Hub age, you need the special good Dark Matter for one of the GB's, and you can only get Dark Matter from the Space Hub map.
Don't count on Inno to remove any of the blockers in the game.

If that were true you would not be in this situation.

Surely this is a major weakness in the game and risks players dropping out.

How come that every player that has messed up his own game seems to think that the game is the problem and there is a risk that players will drop out cause they have made the same mistake? Maybe you will drop out, maybe somebody else as well, but the majority of players will never even face this situation.

How long will this obstacle to progress remain?

As long as it will take you to reach the Mars Continent map.

Not a very empathetic response. How is one to know what one is “supposed” to do? How are you to know whether you have “rushed” your research or not- my point is that the need to keep these two aspects of the game in step is not well sign-posted, and this would enable the purblind like me to avoid this, and the comments of sniffy know-it-alls

The game doesn't tell you how to play or the best way to progress. It's up to the players to figure it out. If players get stuck in the game due to lack of resources or something else, it's because they have made some bad choices along the way, such as advancing too fast through the ages.
Slow down. Get the maps done. Stockpile resources. Boost your strength. Build up the city. There's plenty to do in the game. It's not about getting to the highest age as fast as possible.

My sentiments exactly. Not all of us sit day in and day out in our parent's basements playing the game 24/7. You're right, it's very easy to make a mistake, as the consequences of that "mistake" is not sign-posted at all. Then, when you come to the forum to highlight that aspect, you get snotty comments from the likes of "DROPPY" who drops his crap all over the forum.

Sorry my contributions do not meet your standings. I don't think I can match yours.

I would recommend rushing the maps rather than research. If you push ahead on the maps, you'll get resources from the higher ages and all the map related story quests will be done in advance.

The way to do that would be to camp in every age.

It makes me smile when people say how are we supposed to know what to do and there are no instructions on how to play...that's part of the game, if you want a game that is a simplistic, easy one that doesn't stretch your mind, then FoE was the wrong choice, you have to explore learn and ask other players, that's what makes it so engaging, interesting and absorbing. There are several good guilds in several worlds that have their own websites with the tips tricks and strategies, try to find one as will help your progress, for me, its the only thing left of the original gameplay, if not, simply search the Web for answers, if that's too much trouble, then sorry, have a good life playing the "real crap" out there that doesn’t need thinking about
