Pressured by another player

Does FoE have any kind of standing rules about one player basically calling another inept because they lack the GBs that "every player" in each age absolutely should have. I was essentially called a bad player for not having 8 great buildings. Most I don't even know what they are, much less have the blueprints for because I don't have hours upon hours to dedicate to this game.

Being called inept or a bad player is hurting you? Is your skin truly that thin? How has anyone gotten anywhere in life if some minor insult like that is enough to upset a person?
This is a game, ignore that other player. If you cannot ignore them, then you have much more serious problems then someone calling you inept.

Wow, that was uncalled for. I asked simply because I know of other games that take it quite seriously and will temp ban people who are seen as pressuring players to play the "correct"way. I simply wanted to know if this game had such a system.

Thanks, I didn't see anything specific in any of those, so I'll just have to assume this game doesn't have that option. Pity, but I guess I can understand it. It's a big game, hard to keep track of everyone. Thanks for trying to help anyway.

As a player I too have witnessed pressure to conform to someone else's idea of what Forge of Empires is suppose to be about. It is a very real power trip and can actually be enforced depending on the area of the game being played. For example when joining a guild leaders do have power over other people by threatening to evict them from the group. It is good to know what demands leaders have in mind or like this forum have placed rules into the mix. Be careful of guilds which are not upfront with how they want other players to play.

It does not make sense in my mind to demand that there be 8 great buildings in a city though having some great buildings will add benefits to the guild. One example is the observatory which adds goods to the guild treasury. You are correct in your concerns because there is a narrow margin between asking other players to contribute and demanding with consequences what they need to do. For that reason I attempt to stay away from overly aggressive or those types which consider themselves the authority on how the game is to be played and just carry on the way that I wish to play.

I've been lucky in that regard, I think. Everyone else in my current guild is amazing, super kind and ready to help when I need it. It only appears to be one player with a bee in their bonnet regarding my play style.

If you feel the players breached the game rules that Knight of Ice linked above, please do report them using our ingame reporting mechanism. Otherwise, we also have the 'ignore' feature which you can use if you do not wish to hear from a certain player.

I've never tried the ignore feature. That might be effective in certain situations. Good idea. I don't think you understand what is being discussed in this thread however as peer pressure is not at all mentioned in any of the rules, terms or conditions.

We can expect that I guess in any community. The guild I joined is easy going too. People have asked others politely to allow the owner to level a great building (works well for owner) for example and so everyone gets along without cumbersome rules and obligations being inflicted.

Maybe you are just wrong here.

Game Rules

3. Communication
InnoGames does not accept any publications that the Forge of Empires Team considers illegal, insulting, offensive, threatening, abusive, real-life-aggressive, sexually explicit, pornographic (including, but not limited to drawings and animations), profanity, politically extreme, religiously fanatic, endangering youth, racist, playing down the use of illegal drugs or alcohol, or promoting the use of said substances or in any way inappropriate. Posting links to such content is also not allowed.

Spamming other players with in-game mails or chat messages is abusive and will not be tolerated.
It is against the rules to impersonate any staff member or suggest acquaintances with them in order to force any kind of behavior.

  • Examples:
  • It is forbidden to use inappropriate names,
  • It is forbidden to advertise competitors' games, post inappropriate content or links to such, post links to moneymaking sites or links to competitors' games.
  • It is allowed to refer to a player as a noob or to criticize their way of playing using appropriate language.
  • Threats are only allowed when they relate to the game and not real life. For example, saying that you will attack someone with your units if he does not give you Forge Points is allowed. However, it is not allowed to say that you will find someone and beat him up if he does not give you Forge Points.
  • Using only capital letters, or spamming the same message repeatedly in the chat room is not permitted as it is poor chat etiquette.
  • We ask players to not use account names that include whole e-mail addresses, full names or telephone numbers, for player safety and safety of personal data.
  • Encouraging other players to break rules is forbidden.

Only the players concerned know the contents of the private messages, and that is as it should be, therefore it a matter for the individual player, and no one else, to decide whether that content should be reported. It is therefore important for players who feel harassed or bullied to know that the report and ignore options exist. Knight of Ice helpfully linked the game rules so that an informed decision can be made.

The title of this thread is pressured by another player not bullied or harassed.
Criticism does not always mean to be harassed or bullied.

According to INNO rules it is considered to be not a problem...

  • It is allowed to refer to a player as a noob or to criticize their way of playing using appropriate language.
but just because INNO believes referring to a player as a noob is okay does not mean a player needs to criticize others to play the game.
I don't use that word to insult other players, never intend to nor will I be coerced into doing so.

Pressure to play the game or even think of the game in a certain way is not always connected with criticism but with force.

I do not think that calling a player inept is putting any pressure on that player. It is just the opinion of one player. You can hardly call that peer pression, harrasment or bullying. He has been called a bad player once by one person.

Good for you, but that does not mean that everybody is obliged to follow your standards.

Pressure to play the game or even think of the game in a certain way is not always connected with criticism but with force.

Only if the player pressured or criticised feels it is force. Still it is not up to you to judge. If a player feels he/she is forced in any way, he/she can always contact Support.

This game is a competition. It has a ranking, it has game rules that tell you how you can play. If that is a problem for you, maybe this is not your game. Ofcourse you are allowed to play it according to your own standards, but so is everybody else.

Unfortunately there are many in the game who, like Paladiac, think that people are as thick skinned as themselves and think that it is OK to use personal insults rather than assist and explain. Even if you tell them, they usually do not feel empathy and even when told of their irritating behaviour, they will try to turn it around, and throw you another insult.

If your guild leaders condone the behaviour, leave and find a better guild, there are a few good ones out there.

Well, if Inno bans referral of other players as noobs, more or less half of FOE's players will be at least temporarily banned. If you look at it logically, such comments may be intended as constructive criticism.
Also, all the high guilds require SOME gbs, which you ought to get for yourselves. Case in point - an Arc or a Traz.

I agree with you that any word can mean different things as used in context. If someone wrote "that person made a mistake but hey cut them some slack because they just started" in context then it would be constructive and much different than "what a dumb, stupid _______". In that context which is most often used, it is not constructive criticism.
Just like when I call Janet, yet again, a Snowflake for her comments and attitude about the game. Maybe there is a tree somewhere that needs a hug.
YOU make laugh with contempt for INNO pets. Don't think I am a snowflake but even if I were, I like snowflakes. lol

I think it is fair to say in most cases the word NOOB throughout the internet is more often used as an insult.

@Melloman26 I don't care what INNO does and if a guild requires members so be it. My only regret and inconvenience was to join a guild that enforced rules but didn't make its rules clear in the guild description which some do. I left that guild lost the investment that I put into that guild and had to wait. But I joined a guild more to my liking. One that doesn't force its members to play a specific way.

Wrong!

You are wrong about the game is a competition. I'll be back on this thread to explain why you are wrong. What you are right about is that people can play Forge Of Empires without feeling pressured. If they are okay with a guild that has strict rules and/or they enjoy criticizing other players then that is their choice. If they don't want to play the game as instructed by others they can by all means leave a guild and join people who play the game without peer pressure and play Forge of Empires in a cooperative way.

I do not think that calling a player inept is putting any pressure on that player. It is just the opinion of one player. You can hardly call that peer pression, harrasment or bullying. He has been called a bad player once by one person.

Usually I'm pretty casual about this, but please don't assume that every new face in the forums is male. I'm female, and I don't appreciate the innate suggestion that I'm male.

The ignore feature only blocks direct messages from them to me and vice versa. I still have to put up with him in the guild, and I don't really want to leave such a good guild over one problem player.
