If You Just started playing, then there is a long time where medals are useful as explained by Richard of Shaw to open City Expansions.
By a long time I really mean a long time – offcourse depeding on how often you play and how able you are to get Medals – but do not expect to run out of the use for medals at least in the first years time – properly longer but some players have done extreme advancements within a year, but it is seldom and need total dedication and a reel tight and smart plan.
Now a days gaining a lot of medals is mainly done by the GB investment play – but that requires a good FP income or a very willing Guild letting you take some good spots and gaining many medals trough that. Secondary if you are good at fighting the Neighborhood you can win medals in the Weekly Tower tournaments (PvP). The more passive medal income is e.g Victory Towers, Buildings that can produce Medals and then theres is a few Great Buildings which I would not recommend to base your Medal income on - they are for the most part obsolete in comparison to many Event buildings and in regard to Medal ouput. You can also win Medals in Events and Quest – it all adds up and so does the costs of Medal Expansions till the balance shifts and you will to have more medals that you can use.
