Lost in Battle - need help understanding why

I just did a battle in GE lvl2 and somehow I got my a$$ handed to me in what should have been an easy win and I cannot understand why.

My Team:

7 x Trebuchet (hma)
1 x Heavy Infantry (hma)
atk-bonus: 39%
def-bonus: 33%


Enemy Team:

2 Trebuchet (hma)
6 Catapult (ema)
No Bonus


Result: 8 dead (me) vs 5 dead (enemy)

This was with Auto-battle, I know its not great but I cannot understand how 6 enemy units from a lower age with zero bonuses can beat my 7 units from higher age with bonuses, can anyone offer an explanation.

Never bring a sword to a gunfight. Never.

In short, your opponent had 8 units shooting at you, you had 7. That's enough to mitigate the differences in attack. At this point, differences in defence are most likely negligible - you both need 3 hits to take down enemy artillery.

Doesn't the Treb have a higher rang that the Cat, shouldn't start the fight and have more kills ?
