Summer is officially upon us (well, some of us) and it is a good time to plan vacations. Tell us all about what your dream vacation is. Where would you most like to take a vacation? Do you prefer relaxing on the beach, or shushing down a ski slope? Would you rather hike through lush locales or explore urban jungles?

My favourite holiday - a Greek gourmet food holiday, first staying in an estate on the edge of a pretty mountain village full of the sounds of church bells while learning to cook local produce with accomplished Greek chefs. Then to travel to the island of Limnos in the north east Aegean to visit an estate for lamb cooked in a wood-fired oven, to have with fresh figs I gather from the trees and to imbibe local ouzo on the terrace overlooking the sea. I’d visit the village in the evenings to dance to bouzouki music in the main square after dinner. I’d finish this holiday staying in five-star luxury on the cliffs at jaw-droppingly beautiful Santorini for days of sailing and sun, great restaurants and shopping.

The Life of a Pirate


My journey would start fairly close to home in Tampa Bay. I would board my small, but capable, sailing vessel geared toward moderate seas. I'd have the tools of a modern pirate, GPS, Radio, Book of Lost Treasures, metal detector, and digging implements. I'd set sail looking for those lost traces of hideouts past, abandoned keys, and deserted islands. Where the Great Caribbean Pirates held court and hid their ill-gotten artifacts. My metal detector, the great Nokta Golden King, would sift through hundreds of years to find those hidden chests, half-filled rum barrels, and buried bags of leather that have evaded everyone else. And after a long day of finding nothing, I'd enjoy the sun setting on my own little private beach camp.

Perfect summer holiday for me is… my own home and the opportunity to spend two weeks without thinking or worrying about work. I will read, watch TV, play video games, watch movies and relax.

It always looked to me that trying to use your summer holiday for travel is a pure waste of time and that it almost always creates the opposite effect of getting some rest.

Instead of getting some rest, you get to worry about planes and schedules. You get to “enjoy” crowded hotels and restaurants full of noisy children and even noisier adults.

My way is better. You don’t have to pack, you save some money and you will never be late for anything. That’s what I call a holiday.

My dream vacation? One week away, in a quiet, secluded and relaxed environment. Preferably up in a temperate mountain rainforest region. Cool, misty mornings, clear night skies so I can simply sit on the verandah of a small wooden cabin, either in a chair or on the stairs, with a hot cuppa in hand, staring at the stars and listening to the night creatures. Beautiful days where I can go for walks through the shady trees to lookouts or clear pools with waterfalls and just breathe. A chance to remove myself from the busy, busy of the daily rush and slow down to the speed of life. That would be a dream.

My dream vacation would be horseback riding in Alaska under the midnight sun. I want to see those far reaching views of valleys and bright blue rivers with mountains rising up behind it all. It's quiet and you can hear nature all around you. I would stop for the evening and the dream would be having dinner made for you at a nice camp with yurts. I would wake up early to drink coffee, relax, listen to the birds echoing, meditate and draw from life in my sketch book. Nothing would be in a hurry. A guide would tell me all the interesting things about where I am.

The place I'd most like to go for a summer vacation would be Portillo Chile. I am an avid skier and I have never been to the Southern Hemisphere. So, going skiing in Chile would serve to satisfy both of those cravings. By being able to ski in my summer, their winter and being able to view the stars at night in the other half of our beautiful planet Earth. I would also be able to visit one of the most ruggedly picturesque countries of the world, where mountains meet the sparkling Pacific ocean. It would be my dream vacation come true.

My dream vacation would be to the Republic of Figi, with its archipelago of 300 islands and 540 islets scattered over about 1,000,000 square miles (3,000,000 square km). Of the 300 islands, about 100 are inhabited. The capital, Suva, is on the southeast coast of the largest island, Viti Levu (“Great Fiji”). These tropical islands are stunning visually from a photographers' perspective and still fascinating from a geological point as well. the Fiji islands are largely the product of volcanic action, sedimentary deposit, and formations of coral. Viti Levu has an area of about 4,000 square miles (10,000 square km) and accounts for more than half of Fiji’s land area. My dream vacation there would be spent between enjoying the gorgeous beaches as yet unspoilt by man, and exploring the many islands themselves. I would have a blast!

My dream vacation was out of reach (distance, time or finances) most of my life. The one place I dreamt of since a child living in sunny Florida, is Hawaii.
Hawaii is not only a strategic significance to the USA but it has some of the more beautiful dream vacation destinations. Comprised of many islands, each one special in its own way, my dream vacation favorite is the lush and green Kauai with its beautiful beaches, vegetation and numerous waterfalls. Hawaii is famous not only for pineapples or Pearl Harbour but "Jurassic Park", "Hawaii 5 O", "Magnum", "Fantasy Island (with Tattoo and Mr. Roarke) have a special place in my heart. Time and distance are no longer an issue. It's still on my bucketlist. If don't get there... I can still dream and watch reruns. Good luck everyone!

My dream vacation would be to go to the beaches with my friends and enjoy the sunrise and sunset, collect sea shells from the beach, make sand castles, play volleyball, ride on some water sports like jet ski and parasailing and do scuba diving, etc. Experience the fresh sea foods of the nearby restaurants and make new friends there. Also witness and enjoy the night life of the place. And of course find casinos nearby to test out our luck and earn (or maybe lose) some bucks. After winning some money (in case) we would search out for clubs and get ourselves something to eat and drink.

My dream vacation would be to visit my ancestral homeland, Scotland. To spend a week or two traveling Scotland and Ireland. To explore around the Great Loch Ness. To talk with the indigenous people there and here their tales of the Loch Ness monster. Maybe even see it. Also as I'm part Scottish it would be awesome to go there to on the same trip. My family is part of Clan Mackay, it is an ancient and once-powerful Highland Scottish clan from the far North of the Scottish Highlands, but with roots in the old Kingdom of Moray. They supported Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century. In the centuries that followed they were anti-Jacobite. The territory of the Clan Mackay consisted of the parishes of Farr, Tongue, Durness and Eddra.

I would like to be able to visit my own city in Forge of Empires as it a peaceful place with plenty of accomodation and regular air drops of supplies, manna from heaven as it were, along with the local manufactories making cars, aircraft, confectionery and hats. OK, there are also armament factories and barracks but as I am above the age of military service and retired from my work that would not affect me. All the actual figting is done overseas in other continents apart from the ocasional ransacking of a local factory which is never resisted so there are no casulaties to worry about. I would love to enjoy the local park and meet with the girl with her hair piled high in a beehive and say hello her boyfriend.

I spend my vacation in a bungalow by the sea. These days I manage to get a good night's sleep, lie on the beach, sunbathe in the sun in the gentle morning rays, swim to my heart's content, dive with a snorkel and mask, admiring the seabed. In the evening I go down to the sea again to sunbathe and swim.
Even the descent to the sea gives me pleasure. The descent to the sea from my bungalow is quite long. There are a lot of green trees on the sides, birds are chirping.
There is a decent cafe on the beach with a very diverse menu. There are many shops with goods for summer holidays. A variety of entertainment.
Returning from the beach in the evening, I enjoy playing my favorite game Forge of Empires.

I would love to go to Florida. I have dreamed of the wonderful sandy beaches. I have migraines that hinder me from doing things except traveling and playing with FOE but with gas prices so high I don't have the opportunity to go on my own. I want to take my daughter for her upcoming wedding. She missed out on a lot because her grandparents would take her sister but not her. We have never taken a trip together and I want to do something special for her, Her and I are very close because we are s lot like. I hope that I can make this dream come true.

In my country, many years ago, there was a father and son team - road builders extraordinaire and excellent geologists - called Thomas and Andrew Bains. The roads they built pass through some of the most beautiful countryside on this lovely planet of ours. The Bains men really read rocks and landscapes well, their roads are reminiscent of old Roman and Southern French well built tracks in the wilderness. They built passes that have an unbelievably smooth climb up steep gradients, well suited to animal drawn vehicles. Driving them is an absolute pleasure, especially as you rarely need a x4 vehicle to scale forbidding peaks safely! While I have found, and driven many of the Bains' roads, new books about the Bains and other conversations with other enthusiasts always have me salivating to drive just ONE more of their brilliants roads, I have to discover just one more awesome pass linking tiny rural outposts with each other, winding and snaking through lush vegetation. Not the average 5 star holiday unless you're like me and love camping under the stars in the middle of nowhere on a glorious road leading somewhere, sitting around a fire with good friends.. And I promise to send you pictures of the next trip I make on a new Bains road to somewhere interesting - there are a couple in my own province recently discovered in an old book which I am certainly going to try

My favorite summer vacation is a trip up north in Norway. The weather is decent,but its the fishing im loving. Catching monster Cods and halibuts out on the ocean on a wooden fishing boat. We would live in a "rorbu" that is a old building originally used to pull your boat up in and do repairs to them. Northern Norway have white beaches with crystal clear water for swimming, surfing and kiting. There is also many islands there where there are huge colonies of birds to go exploring and bird watching. The people of northern Norway are tough but very warm and welcoming, and they have a history of beeing good story tellers. Last but not least The landscape is breathtaking so yes, this is my favorite holiday.

Even before the Covid pandemic made it more difficult and less carefree to go abroad, I never had much desire to leave my home, which is more pleasant and beuatiful than any other location I can think of - so being there with nothing to do is my dream vacation.
Sleeping in a nice modern house in the green hilly countryside that reminds of Tuscany in northern Italy, having a large cool natural pond to swim in - with all deck chairs to ourselves, surrounded by trees and the silence is broken only by birdsong and the wind. The travel budget is spent on fine wines and groceries, and in the evening we order delivery from one of the restaurants in the nearby towns.

My dream vacation starts with my whole family heading to Florida for at least 3 weeks. All of us staying either in a large rental, with an amazing pool of course! We would spend 3 to 4 days at Disney world, take a few days off to rest and explore the area then spending 4 to 5 days at Universal Studios Orlando. Another couple days off to rest, then a cruise to the Caribbean. Great food, great views and of course great sunshine. Then it would be off to tour Europe, Paris, Rome, London to finish off the trip and then back home till next time !!

For me, an ideal place for vacation is Pelling situated in Sikkim, India. It is a popular place for its natural scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage. From enjoying the beauty of mountains, lakes, and waterfalls to exploring the secrets of historical ruins, there are plenty of attractions that make it an ideal place for vacation. When I am looking for places to relax and rejuvenate, Pelling comes at top of my priority list. Pelling is a beautiful town located in the hills of the west district of Sikkim. The main attraction of the place is the breathtaking sight of the Kanchenjunga and the other peaks of the Himalayas. Pelling is my favorite hill station with a charm of its own. It offers a perfect break from a fanatic work schedule and makes me relax within the ocean of beauty and calmness.

Hello there.
The dream vacation for me would be a month or more if possible in the beautiful city of Limassol in Cyprus. I was born and raised next to sea and Limassol has a coastline of about 20kms. It has sun almost 10 months a year and that makes it a must place for me. Also Cyprus has a big community of social latin dancers (salsa, bachata, kizomba etc). It is a very active dancing community. You can find events almost daily in all 4 major cities (Larnaka, Limassol, Nicosia, Pafos). Even if you dont find an event, you can always find group of people that want to dance in house parties.
Limassol is in my heart. If you love sun and latin dance, thats the place to be.
