It might actually be useful for new players trying to figure out an appropriate pace of era advancement. Of course, experienced players will have a fairly good idea, based on their placement in multiple neighborhoods.

Actually, campers have a very good idea of their position in their era. If you go through enough neighborhood merges in an era, you can't help but know.
