Iron Age Units in Bronze Age PvP?

I was in the Bronze Age PvP tower and I keep getting wrecked by archers. I looked at the tech tree to see how to get archers and find it in the Iron Age tech tree. So I was wondering, do you not advance into the next age until you finish all of the tech trees or is it a certain percentage?

No you need to unluck that research and everything before that.

Until then you can fight later age enemy's before you have them yourself.

yeah I found that out the hard way too Deianira I went for a battle with my spearman and found myself up against 5 archers and 2 warriors and 1 legoniare, wrote a message to my oponaint and he replies that has no slingshot even.
