Proposal:

Create a whitelist for commonly used and safe FoE related websites and link them within the game.

Reason:
  • The spam filter is overly simplistic and marks anything prefixed with http:// or https:// as spam, including official FoE sites.
  • It is also easily circumvented by simply omitting the URL scheme so official support for "safe" URLs would improve the game UX.
Details:

Suggested sites to whitelist/link:

https://*.forgeofempires.com/
https://forum.*.forgeofempires.com/*
https://forgeofempires.fandom.com/*
https://foe-tools.github.io/*

Balance/Abuse Prevention:

N/A

I would like to be able to link pages from this website. It would be useful to link info for my guild on up coming changes or events with out getting the spam warning if you don’t edit the link enough.

It's not filter, URLs won't work but in guild forum where they all work.

So why in one place and not the other?

The UI is already pretty full and I have no idea where this could go.

There is nothing to add to the UI, just allow the URL to show and make it into a link if it matches a specific domain.

The last two are third party and Inno can't guarentee their safety (malware-wise and spoiler-wise).

Why would they need do this anyway? It's allowed in the guild forum, you just said, plus we can already post URLs without the http(s)://.

Alternatively, it could simply be an option in settings that allows the player to turn spam filtering on/off, then it's "use at your own risk", if that is the reasoning behind it. I'm pretty sure most of the players I know would opt to turn it off, given the choice. Most games have these kind of options, also to turn on/off word filters.

+1 it makes no sense to filter links to sites you own in your own product.
