This month's forum contest is a guessing competition. Can you guess how many Gummy Bears are in this jar?

View attachment 22045

The only clues are that the jar is 20 cm tall from table to top and the jar and its contents weigh a total of 1.84 kg.

The Gummy Bears were very carefully counted into the jar by me, personally. The number was then shared only with Lady Marlena.

The prize for an exact guess is 2,000 diamonds - whether that is shared between one or many. If no one guesses the exact number, the prize for the guess closest to the actual number - again, shared by one or many - will be 1,500 diamonds.

The competition will close at 23:59 on Saturday. 24th October 2020.

Contest Rules

Time to get guessing! Good luck!
221 gummie bears

200

(the layer of sweets is 6 standing gummy bears high and 4 lying bears wide at the widest point. Using the formula for the volume of the cylinder, V=pi*h*(d/2)^2 is about 75*(height of gummy bear)^3. I am going to say that the width and depth of gummy bear is half the height: so four gummy bears side by side form a cube of side (height of gummy bear). So if the whole space was totally filled with gummy bears, the answer would be 300. But it's not.

We can count the visible gummy bears and estimate how many 'holes' there are that admit a gummy bear (ignore the ones where just the corner is showing). I make it 60 and 30 respectively. So empty space is about 33%. Subtract from 300 to get the answer.
