Now here's the interesting part "be a little more green"
The tragedy of it all is it's almost become this scapegoat for companies to push certain products. Before plastic came along our ancestors never had unrecyclable waste in the quantities that we have. And when plastic did come, at first it was made to last.
Shopping centres used to be something that you bring your own cloth bags to - not something the supermarket supplies for you. Then when supermarkets started it was with plastic bags. Then there was that movement against the plastic bags because of the effect on the environment. Now when you get "reusable" shopping bags it's still all plastic. We've swapped plastic, for even more plastic.
Clothes were made to last for decades, and patched over and over until they're no good. And when they're no good they'd be used as rags. Today the material for clothes are far thinner and so don't last as long. We also don't patch things as often when they do get holes. We're far more likely to get a brand new item of clothing
Many of the chemicals we have today that are harmful for the environment never existed for our ancestors.
We should definitely "be more green" as in reduce the negative impacts of our society. We've made improvements in areas for sure but we still need to look into how things were done in the past and compare that with the present in order to see whether what we're doing is any better, or if it's actually worse. And then from that make a decision on how to proceed along with looking at any other alternatives people are researching.
