[FIX] How to make your desired units start first

Surge

Brigadier-General
Surge here. I have seen many people complaining about how the AI randomly chooses whatever units will start first in your army during a battle. I found a solution for this. Please keep in mind that it works ONLY with units of the same speed value but of different tiers, as you would rather have a Trebuchet go first than a Ballista you have yet to replace. Some people may already know this trick, however, others are stuck with it.

This is all a very easy process which requires no more than a minute.

1) First, you have an army like the picture below. I want my Crossbowman to start first so that it's high damage gets dished out first.

What a disorder!

2) Go to your campaign map, and select a province. Select a sector, and click attack. Don't worry, as 99% of you already know, it will prompt a confirmation with which it allows you to make final minute army set-up. Remove all of your desired units like in the screen shot below.

3) And finally, simply select the removed units and move them back into your army configuration! Units that recently have entered the army configuration will go first unless another unit has a higher speed value. It should look like this...

And for proof, here is a screen shot of the battle that ensues after!

Notes: It works 80% of the time if you are doing it in the city. The other 20% is the chance the AI will randomize it yet again before you confirm your attack. If you do it while you are in the city, pay attention to the units displayed on the attack confirmation box.
This does, however, work 100% of the time if done in the attack confirmation box.

EDIT: Using Longbow Archers in the mix now never works.

VERY cool to see this level of detail in a post. Great Job! Thanks!

The levels are tougher than they were in previous version. So I am finding it hard to complete it.

I want to use Balista (long range) and archer combination. I followed same as you but Balista doesn't attack 1st. I guess this because of speed. Has there anyway to start attack by Balista (long range) 1st. Thanks

Long range always shoot last, light melee always first, then heavy melee, then short range, so this trick need to be useing when you use same unit class

Turns don't go by class but by movement speed. Generally it goes fast -> light -> short -> heavy -> long, But there are always exceptions.

Mounted archers are short range but move with fast units. Grenadiers are heavy hut move with most short range. Rogues are light, but slower than some heavies. Some long range are faster than other long range.

Basically they take turns based on movement speed, and the OP here is talking about adjusting turns for units that have the same movement speeds.

Yes, you do need units of the same speed. Otherwise it's a flop for this fix. And sometimes this fix doesn't work for whatever reason. But it is worth a try.
