If you mean the top personal rankings it's a mix on P-world. Some buy diamonds some don't or barely do.
As for top players it'll probably depend what you consider a top player. This game allows a quite diverse game play and personal interests may vary a lot depending on what we find fun, challenging and want to achieve as goals. Spending money helps speeding up the process of what you want to achieve but it still requires a lot of patience, dedication and a minimum of skill.

Of course they would given to have multiple (more than 2-3) iterations of event building you need to pay a lot of money. The pic is of the top ranked player in Vingrid. Go look at the top players in any city you have access to and you'll find the same.

Purchasing diamonds removes any requirement for patience, dedication and minimum skillset... That's not to say that people who buy dias son't have those qualities, simply that diamonds streamline everything.

Purchasing yes, that's 5 mins of work and a bit of excitement. Unfortunately the other part is not quite accurate but still exciting although. I spent 40+ hours finishing board after board after board during the Eco event and that for 10 Eco Sanctums. I need 2 hours and a half to go through a stack of 300 FSP (getting slow as I'm getting old) without going completely gaga. I had to burn through a lot of 300 FSP stack to go from 10 to 26 Sanctums and from 3 to 11 Regal Squirrel Halls. It also took me 7 long months to finally get my 26 Aegean Resorts as I started with no FSP to talk about after finishing the soccer event 2023. Try tossing diamonds on cultural settlements as it does feel good, stressful sometimes but still good once you get those 3 chests out of it.
The good news is that coming Halloween event isn't the time consuming card game everyone hates ( 1 hour up to 1 hour and a half every day past year, every day). The other goods news is that I'm done with events for the time being, need a long break. I only had 1 day I could spent on the Fall Event of this Year, that was 7 hours that day getting cups down, seven freaking hours, try it, it's exciting and fun.
But you are right, purchasing diamonds removes everything as suddenly everything comes for free at he speed you folks click nowedays in GbG.
