Yes. Incredibly enough, Devs managed to nerf something that the game itself used only once.

instead of removing gift buton they should have removed delete buton from inventory this way you could give to someone who would need the thing you don't want in inventory instead of wasting what is in your inventory by deleting

Originally they were considering allowing gifting, however there are too many ways to exploit it and give an unfair advantage. Therefore they decided to remove the gift button.
