Brand new player having trouble even getting started

Hi guys. I played for less then a minute before being stymied. An advisor appears to tell me how to play. I try but he will only allow me to place a building in a very particular spot. I don't want to place it there. It looks like FoE is playing the game, not me. How can I get rid of this "feature"?
