Already Suggested: One down kit

DeletedUser103370

Possibly a new reward could be a 1 down kit, One up kit doesn't work for me as everything is up already up high. I would love to make my terrace farms FE or arctic so the goods would be useful to me.

Not sure if it has been suggested before but I know I could sure use some. :)

Or for diamonds make it possible to set the age of a special production building.

DeletedUser108047

The market for AF goods is not great at least on N... not many trades up for them generally

A downgrade kit has been suggested before I think.

+1 for me - I would certainly like to downgrade a champion or two

DeletedUser110195

This seems specifically useful to only the very top end of players and only in very specific circumstances. I don't want to ever see this thing in a list of possible prizes from a chest or anything....in fact the only suggestion that made any amount of sense regarding this is what Dane said, with a champion's retreat, though I'd just throw another fast/heavy into it.

@Augustavian its not just the top players. As a noob I didn't realise the value of a champion and traz combination and so deleted one and have only had one to level up since.
Its probably more for GvG players than anything else.

Any player wanting to play lower age GvG regardless of their level of experience would prefer to have a champion's retreat at least in most ages, to fill a traz with

Also if you wanted to focus on an era for GvG you could use a downgrade kit to downgrade a special building such as the Lab, Luau, bazaar, santa;s workshop etc, so it gives you goods of that age.

I agree, but why not simply set the level for diamonds? It would be much more elegant and straightforward, and the price could change according to the level you want to change into (dropping 3 era's would cost more than 1).

@z78sabjan you can't upgrade with diamonds.... so you shouldn't be able to downgrade with diamonds

And before you say well lets have buildings upgradeable and downgradeable with diamonds... I don't think that is a good idea because:
  • many players play this game without using or buying diamonds. this would further encourage the diamond mining strategy which does not necessarily lead to good play for all players (ie. hoods filled with cities designed just to collect diamonds and have lots of wishing wells)
  • this would be too akin to making the game too easy. Already players can and do spend large amounts on diamonds but the changes that can be made with diamonds are limited
  • there is already a sense by many that the balance of the game is less freemium and more premium with a bit of free. I don't think it healthy for the game community for players to be further concerned about the premium pay to play nature of the game as it would lead to less players
  • it would reduce the tension between deciding to stay in an era for various reasons and progressing up tech tree for other reasons.
  • currently upgrade kits are quite rare (in either form) and are only available in events. Having them as rare prizes encourages event participation which in turn benefits hoods with the cumulative prizes leading to expansions. Take away the incentive to chase an upgrade kit in the casino will reduce the amount of participation and thus the level of medals reward

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a diamond player either, in fact I use them exclusively for expansion, and only what I get in-game!
And I wasn't even thinking about upgrading for diamonds, only downgrade or back to the original level, it'd not be there for advancing effortlessly with real money, only to configure your city to your needs.
The reason why I thought about diamonds, because this could be a very effective tool, especially if you could apply it to different kind of buildings, for example you'd be able to produce the goods/units you need atm.

Of course I'd be the happiest if it could be done for other in-game currencies, ie. FPs/gold/supply.
My problem with these one up kits, is they're only good for opportunities, not really for planning. As you said they're pretty rare, thus they can only be used in a couple of cases. With a manual approach this could become part of the strategy, making your city highly adaptable to any situation.

There is no way even a significant number of low to mid level players are considering GvG at all, where you barely have enough room for the buildings to do GE manually. This IS a high end player item only, if it's ever introduced.

Well, in around IA there are plenty of players, in our guild for example we support building of traz, and many has it before progressive! In fact I had it in in LMA already. So this could be useful for example for someone in IA who has traz, and would want to participate in let's say CA campaign.

Though of course it would be most useful at higher ages, but I wouldn't say exclusively for the top ones.
And even if it was, I don't think this would upset the balance (or widen the gap), since it's not really an advantage, rather a strategic option.

rubbish.... I know lots of low and mid level players who participate in GvG. Different players play different ways... I started in GvG in Iron Age ...

DeletedUser110195

Whether a low age player gets into GvG or not is irrelevant, this thing would be useful only to people who are so deep in GvG that they'd consider halting progress just to have low end buildings in their city. There's nothing stopping you from building the building for the age equivalent of a champion. Yes it is moderately less effective, but it will do the job. This one down thing is something that will just piss off people who DON'T need to do this, whether they accept the regular fast/heavy, or they had the foresight not to delete those buildings.

Hmm, I see, so that's why it pisses you off :)))
Btw. not necessarily, I mean that if you're in IA and you want to fight in CA, then it's not certain you'll have a CA champion in your inventory! Also don't forget that by downgrading they will lose their current level, so it's not like they'd get an extra building, and especially with these one up/one down kits no one would be able to jump around freely between ages. Downgrading to CA from IA could mean that you're stuck there for months to come, it'd only give more freedom of how you utilize them?

DeletedUser110195

The only use I could envision for these would be to downgrade terrace farms and the masquerade ball to bronze age, since I only ever produce FPs out of them, the less population they eat the better, which is why my masquerade's are still LMA while I'm PE.

Side note: While I know you mean industrial age, as evidenced by you talking about downgrading to hit colonial age, InA is the acronym for that, don't forget iron age. ;)

DeletedUser107760

+1 i would be happy to replace it with one up kit, cuz i see it more usefull at my stage in the game. (please don't confuse one up kit with a reno kit, still need that reno lol)

And just a small list of things to downgrade:
- Champion retreat
- Soccer field
- Bazaar
- Terrace farm
- Luau
- Aviary
- Mad scientist's lab
(I might missed some, so help appreciated):)

Ah yeah, you get me anyway :D

I agree that this is something only usually wanted by players in later ages.

OK, so buying a downgrade with Diamonds has issues.

Many late-age players have masses of Tavern Silver, so how about sell downgrade kits in the Tavern Shop?

I think a downgrade kit should NOT be able to reduce population. It doesn't make sense to me that someone with dwellings housing thousands can downgrade to compete with bronze-age people who can't possibly get that kind of housing density. I'm not even sure about downgrading troops but downgrading the age of goods, sure.

(Meanwhile, I'm struggling to UPgrade in my towns!)

I don't get the first part, what you mean by downgrading pop?
Downgrading troops on the other hand is perfectly viable I think, because you can build units of any age, regardless of your level anyway!
Btw I love the idea of buying these stuff with town silver.

I think he means downgrading the population requirements of buildings, so you could have CA military/goods buildings, but you'd have the population requirement of a PE equivalent. (Ages for example only)

I could be wrong though
